How To Live In The Moment

Living In the Moment

Carpe Diem! (Live in the moment) It is something that is easier said than done. Every day, I see people worried about their future or even the past…. what if I never find love? What if I give birth and I cannot pay my kids’ tuition? What if I never find a good job in the future after my college education? We get worried over things that are still far away thereby letting worry for the future steal our future and keep us miserable.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could just enjoy the moment with your family and friends without getting worried about the future? Trust me, the future will take care of itself. Living in the moment is not a one-time deal. It is something that you have to do consistently to maintain your sanity and happiness.

What Does Living In the Moment Actually Mean?

Every day, you see people telling you that you need to live more at the moment but you have no idea what’s that mean. Living in the moment means you are fully engaged in what you are doing at every moment and not thinking about what is next.

Living in the moment can also be referred to as “mindfulness”. It is a state of active, open, intentional attention on the present. When you live in the present, you realize that you are not your thoughts; you become an observer of your thoughts from moment to moment without judging them. Living in the moment means that you are not letting your life go by without living it, you awaken to experience.

Is it an easy process? No Way! But it is very achievable. Sometimes our thoughts are overwhelmed by regrets about past events or anxiety about the future, which can make it hard to enjoy the present. In my opinion, no one can truly live completely in the moment, but when we get a moment of it, it is a great feeling.

As I’m writing this message to you, I’m thinking of what else I need to do after this. So living completely in the moment is not easy but you can be able to get a moment of it when you try. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Enjoy the time you spend with your friends and family doing things you love. Don’t let the things you cannot handle ruin those beautiful moments.

People who live in the moment are happier, more empathetic, more exuberant, and more secure. They have higher self-esteem and are more accepting of their own weaknesses. There are so many more joys in life when you live in the moment. You can engage more with the people around you. You will find that time will expand for you. I know that this may seem hard to understand right now. But I want to give you an exercise that can help you achieve it.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Did I engage really with the people I talked with?
  • Did I have fun with my friends?
  • Did I add a benefit to my life?
  • Did my day pass by just taking care of tasks?
  • Did I miss out on playing or engaging with my family and friends?
  • Did I really listen when I was having a conversation?

  • Do kind things for others

Why Should I Live In the Moment? What Are The Benefits?

You are not your thoughts. Life unfolds in the present. However, most of us sometimes miss it because we are chained by our past or anxiety about the future. We squander precious moments of our lives as we worry about the future and ruminate about what’s past. Imagine how beautiful your life will be when you start living in the moment.

The benefits of living in the moment are unlimited. When you start living in the moment, you will begin to see the world in a whole different way. You will feel like you are living in a child’s body – not worrying about the next thing while you enjoy what is going on at that moment. Take a look at the children around you, they are not worried about the past or future, yet, they still get all they need.

When you live in the moment, life will not pass you by. You will be living and enjoying every moment of your life like nothing else is happening. You will see things in a different and your life will become more enjoyable.

You will stop missing out on the enjoyment life is giving you right now. You will see people in a different way. You will begin to live each moment like it is the last. Living in the moment means that you are conscious of the life that is around you at this moment. Living in the moment is probably not a state we can stay in all the time. But when we get a glimpse of this moment, you will get more done in your life because things go faster when you are focused on what you are doing.
